SCHOOL VISITS

Helping to inspire children

Our visits are all about supporting the amazing work our schools do and helping to inspire children to enjoy reading and storytelling. This may be by listening to a story or meeting one of the stars of the books.

Reading to Bandit our Newfoundland dog may be what gives them confidence and builds up their self-esteem.

This is where working in small groups is so beneficial as it enables children to express themselves much easier. Often a dog will be therapeutic and allow children to interact in a truly non judgemental way.

Our Story

When Monty the Newfoundland dog passed away in early 2022, he had visited over 200 schools to share his stories. The star of Nine children’s books, it was estimated he had met over 40,000 children in that time and helped inspire them to develop a love of books and reading through meeting the star of the stories. Bandit the puppy arrived later that year and has continued Monty’s legacy in schools through the newly formed charity The Monty Project.

Bandit is also now the star in his own book with many more adventures sure to follow.

The charity’s aim is to continue the work carried out over the past six years whilst enabling us to provide more support for children with special educational needs through small group sessions.

We also want to be able to provide free books for children in areas and situations of deprivation so that the opportunity to develop a love of reading is open to everyone. We know there is also a clear need for therapy in schools using the wonderful effect dogs have on children.

This is something we have experienced on many occasions and that we want to develop further through the charity and our Directors and network of contacts.
